Learn Lindy Hop, the joyful classic popular Swing Dance done all around the world!
8-count and 6-count are the two main rhythm patterns in Lindy Hop. This course focuses on 8-count patterns. You can take our 6 and 8 count Lindy Hop beginner courses in any order, or take both in the same session of courses. It is all Lindy Hop.
Once you have taken at least one 6-count course and at least one 8-count course, you can take our Intermediate 1 courses.

Learn Lindy Hop, the joyful classic Swing Dance done all around the world!
Come join us and find out why we are so excited to share this dance with you!
In this course you will mostly learn 6-count Lindy Hop. 6-count and 8-count patterns are the main rhythm patterns in Lindy Hop. We also do other rhythm patterns all the time. When dancing we often do 6-count, 8-count and other rhythm patterns in the same song, it is all Lindy Hop.
You can take our two Lindy Hop beginners courses (one focuses on 6-count, the other on 8-count), in either order, or in the same session of courses.
We strongly encourage you to take each or our beginner courses more than once, for more thorough learning, to expand your repertoire, and for fun. It will never be exactly the same course, especially if the teachers are different. It is also 1/2 price (rounded to a multiple of $5) when you take the same course again in the same role.
Once you have done our 6-count and 8-count Lindy Hop beginner courses at least once each, you can take our intermediate 1 courses.

You’ve got the basics under your belt, but you’re looking to take the next step and really catch the groove on the social dance floor. This course will cover both new repertoire and fresh takes on familiar moves that make every dance feel unique. Learn the basics of Balboa Swing Dancing

WHAT IS BALBOA?
Balboa is one of the classic Swing partner dances known for its smoothness, close embrace, rotational energy and intricate footwork. It is often danced to faster tempos. It is sometimes called the “dancer’s dance”.
Come and join the Toronto dancers who are adding Balboa to their dance repertoire!
COURSE DETAILS
Learn or improve the foundational Balboa moves including the two Basics (Uphold and Downhold), Out and Ins, the Come Around, Lollies, Promenade and Toss-out. Grapevine, Slides, Paddles and Scoots will also be covered (influenced by the results of a recent survey of Balboa Follows). There will be an emphasis on good technique: comfortable hold, clear leading, responsive following, and maintaining the rhythm, flow and momentum, and other pointers on achieving an enjoyable dance partnership. There will be plenty of time allotted to drill, and some friendly experienced assistants helping you progress more quickly.
Theme: Follower favourites and how to make Balboa great for followers.

You’ve been learning Bal for at least 3 years. Additionally – you are confident dancing all the basic Pure Bal and Bal Swing shapes and connections at tempos above 200 BPM. Including, but not limited to: uphold basic, downhold basic, scoots, paddles, come around, out and ins, lollies, swivels, and toss outs. You are happy to dance a whole night of Balboa socially. You likely practice, and are ready to play with partnership and connection, not just new vocabulary. You understand that dance is a two way street and are interested in what your partner has to say.

Learn Collegiate Shag! A playful, up tempo dance with an enthusiastic growing following in Toronto! By the end of the course, you’ll be able to dance Collegiate Shag socially in all 3 basic positions, sprinkling in a variety of moves such as turns, hops, and kicks. Intermediate dancers can focus on improving their technique and combining new moves in new ways. The Collegiate Shag (or “Shag”) is a fun classic Swing partner dance done around the world, and known for it’s energetic shapes, playful rhythms, and fun footwork!
The first 4 weeks of the course will focus on beginner shapes, positions and footwork taught by Alisha and Charlie. The last two weeks will feature classes led by Fang Xi and Alisha, and Hyuna and Charlie to share different perspectives, moves and form on the basic styles (and to meet more Shagsters!)
NOTE: We’ll be teaching NEW MOVES from our previous 7-week series, so there will be new material for returning students!
Take the one hour class, stay for the guided practice with your teachers and other “Shagsters.”
