Participants at Swing Toronto events are friendly, positive, enthusiastic, and unintimidating. Though personalities vary and we don’t cater to just one specific type of person, to one degree or another our dancers are adults who share a desire for creativity, personal expression, and fun! This is the place to share the joy and recreation of dancing in the company of other like-minded people. The atmosphere is comfortable, positive, social, playful, and creative. Let’s dance!

What should I expect?

Swing Toronto events are designed to be warm and welcoming and completely friendly for Beginners. Most of our events are preceded by at least one or sometimes even two introductory dance lessons. Please see our Dance Calendar for class and schedule details.

You may pay upon arrival for most regular events unless there is specific pre-registration information listed on the calendar. Just arrive a few minutes before the start time and you can pay in cash when you get there.

Every week, our Beginner lessons are attended by tons of new participants just like you so you’ll be in good company when you take your first dance class. The lesson will help to prepare you for the fun social dance that begins directly after the lesson. Our social dances are just that – social. They are fun, entertaining, and designed to be inspiring and welcoming.

Dance Ambassadors

At our Saturday Night Swing events, we also feature a special welcoming committee specifically for new attendees. The Dance Ambassadors are a team of volunteers who welcome beginners to Saturday Night Swing (the main swing dance in Toronto) and invite them to dance, especially in the early part of the evenings – Ambassadors attend 8pm dance lesson and then act as a kind of welcome wagon for the first band set after the lessons. The Dance Ambassadors program is a Toronto Lindy Hop program volunteer coordinators. They are named in honour of the late great Frankie Manning who was known as the Ambassador or Lindy Hop.
