WORKSHOP

Balboa Beginner
All Levels!

Vaccination proof NOT required. Masks optional.

PREREQUISITE

NO PARTNER REQUIRED.

No prior experience needed, absolute beginners are welcome, no need to bring your own dance partners.

Come and discover why Balboa is growing in Toronto!
It is an upright close connection Swing Dance characterized by rotational movements and small defined footwork at fast tempos. It is considered the most elegant and sophisticated of the partnered Swing Dances, and is often called “the dancer’s dance”.

We will start with the basics and cover some of the main Balboa shapes including the Come Around, Lollies, and Out and Ins. There will be a focus on basic technique including posture, a comfortable connection, pulse, and flow. Experienced assistants will dance with you and help you progress more quickly.

Intermediate level dancers who would like to brush up on their technique are very welcome.

A partner is NOT required. It is common for people to attend by themselves. Partner rotation is allowed and encouraged in all lessons. You may register on your own or with a partner. Nevertheless, if you still seek a partner, please post that at the Facebook event.

WORKSHOP

All Levels!
Air Steps (Aerials), Floorials, Lifts, Drops

Vaccination proof NOT required. Masks optional.

PREREQUISITE

NOTE: You need to bring your own dance partner.

You need to be athletic, and to bring your own dance partner (unlike the other workshops we offer, there is no partner rotation in this kind of workshop). The lead needs to be able to easily carry the follower.
Already being able to do Lindy Hop or another partner dance is recommended.

This is some of the best and most fun stuff in dancing, or at least we think so.
This workshop has a Lindy Hop and Swing Dance orientation, but some of what is taught is also suitable for other partner dancing.
Partner dancing has a third dimension, up and down, from the floor to up into the air.

In a floorial (“floor aerial”) one of the partners, usually the follower, slides on the the floor in a non-vertical non-standing position before returning to standing.

This workshop will not be a repeat of the things we did in our Saturday April, 2024 workshop. It will be entirely different. We might go a bit past the stated end time.

A partner is NOT required. It is common for people to attend by themselves. Partner rotation is allowed and encouraged in all lessons. You may register on your own or with a partner. Nevertheless, if you still seek a partner, please post that at the Facebook event.

WORKSHOP

All Levels!
Rockabilly Jive Bootcamp

Vaccination proof NOT required. Masks optional.

PREREQUISITE

No dance experience required though some partner dancing experience is definitely an asset. Experienced dancers will have the opportunity to work on both leading and following in the workshop.

Come learn the basics of this dynamic dance in one afternoon. It is fast paced, upbeat and typically danced to Rockabilly or 50s Rock ‘n’ Roll style music.
Note that Rockabilly Jive is not the same as American Jive/East Coast Swing, Ballroom Jive or what is taught in the Swing Toronto Rock and Roll Swing class.

Rockabilly Jive quickly became one of Vicky’s favourite swing dances when she was teaching with PortOSwing in Quebec City. She is excited to bring this wonderful dance back to Toronto.

A partner is NOT required. It is common for people to attend by themselves. Partner rotation is allowed and encouraged in all lessons. You may register on your own or with a partner. Nevertheless, if you still seek a partner, please post that at the Facebook event.
