For multiple levels of dancer who are comfortable with the basic Lindy Hop repertoire, and are looking to amplify their possibilities within social dancing.
At a minimum you have taken at least 12 hours of progressive Lindy Hop courses, or equivalent.

No prior experience is needed, absolute beginners are welcome. (If you only come to the Sunday portion you need to have already completed at least one Collegiate Shag course, but if possible please come both days.)

You will learn the basics of Collegiate Shag, a very fun partnered Swing dance from the 1930s. You will learn its basic concepts, rhythms, footwork variations, connections, closed and open position variations, transitions and a break. You will practice individually and with a partner, and develop a strong connection to the music and your own body. You will also learn some of the history of the dance.

Note: This workshop is not just for women, it is also for men and all genders. There isn’t really anything female-only to Josephine’s moves. Like great male dancers, such as Frankie Manning & Leon James, she is and can be an inspiration and model for everyone.

Josephine Baker, the great and iconic 1920s dancer and superstar, was an international sensation. In this workshop, you will learn her story, some of her iconic dance moves, her dance style and unique characteristics, and a fun routine to practice what you’ve learned.

And we’re back!!! The ship hasn’t sailed!! We are excited to be back (as of Saturday, May 13, 2023) and hosting some of our events at Dovercourt House! Although we will continue to run some of our dances and events at other venues, we do expect to have a good share of them here!
For those newer to our scene or unfamiliar with our history with this venue, prior to the pandemic, Saturday Night Swing featuring swing bands and beginner classes was held at Dovercourt House every Saturday night!
The entrance to La Plaza is down the steps on the north side of the front landing of Dovercourt House. Instead of going up the steps to the landing and front doors, go down the steps on the north side of the landing.
For those wanting a beverage or simply a short break from the dance floor, you will be invited to the basement floor cocktail lounge. You will be able to bring your purchased beverage back to the dance party for consumption.

This will be a regular home for Saturday Night Swing every 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month!
